WHO estimates that there are 1 billion Persons with Disabilities globally. Lack of access to products and services for this large customer set has economic consequences for both Persons with Disabilities as well as businesses that could be serving them profitably.
Together with their friends and family, Persons with Disabilities are a large deeply underserved customer segment. Organisations often inadvertently overlook this large market due to myths about accessible environments being cost and effort intensive. Organisations that actively target this customer set have found that inclusive environments improve experience for all customers. There are many examples of inclusive businesses that have successfully positioned themselves as the first preference for all customer segments due to them welcoming Persons with Disabilities. v-shesh has assisted businesses in financial services and retail to receive Persons with Disabilities as customers.
Simply put – accessible service, products and business premises broaden customer base and better business outcomes and brand profile. v-shesh has worked in including Persons with Disabilities as clients in sectors like financial services and retail.
Financial literacy
v-shesh partnered with Accion and 3 respected Small Finance Banks (Equitas, Annapurna and ESAF) on an award winning project for financial inclusion of Persons with Disabilities while specifically focussing on Women with Disabilities from low income communities. At last count, more than 50,000 Women with Disabilities from low income communities had been included as borrowers by these Banks.
Financial inclusion
v-shesh partnered with Crisil Foundation to create financial literacy content for Persons with Disabilities. Content developed by v-shesh included materials in Braille and large fonts as well videos with sign language. More than 50+ organisations have accessed the content and it remains open for all organisations and individuals to access.
Retail
v-shesh partnered with one of India’s largest retail businesses in their effort to create an inclusive environment for Persons with Disabilities. This involved efforts relating to physical environment (access audits), engagement with work force (sensitisation sessions), developing marketing and training collateral as well as seeking feedback from prospective clients.
